Dental visits and dental care products cost way less than surgery. Daily preventive care is the best thing you can do for your teeth.

You should be already brushing your teeth twice every day. You should also brush for two or three minutes to ensure that your teeth are truly adequately cleaned. Too make sure you get everything, including your gums, hold the brush as about 45 degrees.

Most people brush after they get up and before they go to bed, and there is no good reason to deviate from this. Unless your dentist tells you otherwise, you should be using fluoride toothpaste. If you cannot take enough fluoride, you and your children can drink fluoridated water or take supplements.  You should also change your brush every three months.

While you brush, you should spend time to floss. While brushing with fluoride strengthens and cleans the front of your teeth, floss handles the sides and places where your brush cannot reach. Both taken together prevent bacteria from growing on your teeth. They are also the best teeth whitening tools you can buy.
Now, that you are brushing and flossing, it is time to check your diet. Yes, the food you eat and drink greatly affects your teeth, and choosing the right foods will save them from disease. There is nothing wrong with having a soda or two, but limit your consumption of sugary drinks.  The sugar helps bacteria grow. By limiting your intake, you help your body maintain white, clean healthy teeth. Also, eating fruits, instead of just drinking juice, is not only healthy but will actually clean your teeth while you eat. A proper balanced diet will go a long way to prevent needless cosmetic and other dental surgeries.

Good oral health is not a hard goal to achieve, but it does take work. You need to eat the right foods, you have to brush and floss every day, and you need to see your dentist twice a year, but the reward is worth it. Who does not want a nice clean, bright, white smile? However, most of us do not take the time or effort we need to keep our teeth clean and end up getting a gum disease or two.

  1. You have rightly pointed out the need of good oral health at home. There is no alternative to good oral hygiene since dental implants and other options like All on 4 etc come at a high cost.
